The secretion of sweat is a completely normal process for the human body. In this way, the organism regulates body temperature and protects itself from overheating. A healthy, adult human has between two and four million sweat glands. They are most densely populated on the soles of the feet, with approximately 370 sweat glands per square centimeter. Consequently, this is where one sweats most quickly and intensely.
When sweat becomes a real odor problem for the feet
Doctors refer to hyperhidrosis as the condition of permanent sweat secretion that cannot be reasonably explained as a temperature regulation process or linked to massive exertion. It is a malfunction that requires examination by a doctor, as it may be based on a serious illness. However, if hyperhidrosis is not a symptom of another underlying disease and is also limited to one body area, such as the feet, it is referred to as primary focal hyperhidrosis. Every third Central European suffers from excessive foot sweat, especially in summer. Colloquially, sweaty feet are called stinky or cheesy feet due to their characteristic odor.
A stinky fungus that lives in the calluses
Fresh sweat is usually odorless. It dries quickly, allowing the skin to breathe. In closed shoes, especially in summer, heat buildup occurs, which, together with sweat, creates ideal growing conditions for bacteria. When these begin to decompose foot sweat, the aforementioned stinky foot becomes noticeable. In extreme cases, the shoe absorbs sweat until it itself can no longer get rid of the typical, highly unpleasant odor. If this is the case, disposal in the trash may quickly prove to be the only viable option.
The constantly warm, moist environment in closed shoes causes the feet to swell, but also offers nail and foot fungus optimal conditions to settle. If calluses are also present on the feet, they swell whitish due to the high humidity in the shoe and provide an ideal breeding ground for fungi and bacteria.
In addition to fungal infections, such as an odor-causing fungus or the unpleasant athlete's foot, various skin diseases can also occur. For those affected, excessive sweating on the feet is primarily a problem due to the persistently unpleasant odor. Smelly feet are very often due to an infection with athlete's foot, which finds excellent living conditions in closed shoes and non-breathable socks. Especially so-called dermatophytes prefer to live in calluses, feeding on its horny substance, keratin. The warm, moist environment in the wrong footwear leads to the rapid proliferation of both fungi and bacteria in the constantly soaked calluses. Compounding this is the fact that in our highly modern world of constantly changing shoe fashions, increased callus formation is pre-programmed.
Do something good for your feet with Mosadal's care series
As a first measure in the fight against stinky feet, careful professional removal of calluses with Mosadal Lotion should definitely be carried out. This rather simple procedure removes the basis of existence for dermatophytes. It is not only important to remove calluses gently and, above all, thoroughly. It is equally important to put an end once and for all to the yo-yo effect of constantly recurring calluses. The pumice stone is, without a doubt, no more suitable than a grater, planer, razor blade, knife, or scissors. All these methods are based on vigorous rubbing of the calluses and ignore the fact that callus formation is precisely a protective bodily reaction to friction. Other, even more radical techniques can lead to sometimes severe injuries and are therefore anything but gentle. The removal of excess and bothersome calluses with Mosadal Lotion is simple, gentle, and effective at the same time. Here, a specially developed callus remover is used, which prepares the skin for gentle removal with the included pedicure set. After a Mosadal foot bath, Mosadal Urea cream prevents new callus formation. At the same time, it improves the pH value of the skin and thus forms an effective barrier against the nesting of odor-causing fungi or bacteria. Smelly feet are a thing of the past.
